Back in the 70s a group of tournament fishermen sat in a pub and were trying to come up with a design for a sinker that would cast a long way and hold using wires that would release when the fish hit or the angler reels it in. In that group was a long caster and current UK champion Nigel Forest. He also is an amazing engineer. Well they came up with the Breakaway sinker and from that the company Breakaway was formed. A patent was placed on the design and it proved to be a top product.

Breakaway Short Tail sinkers have a product code starting with SL. The Short tail sinker will cast further than the long tail sinker. The sinker will turn quicker into the cast becoming aerodynamic earlier. Also when using a rig with the impact shield on it like the double dropper, the bait is nearer the sinker, again improving the aerodynamics.

Breakaway Long Tail sinkers have a product code starting with LT. The Long Tail sinker has better anchoring ability as the tail acts like an anchor chain and will flatten the sinker making the sinker tines dig in better. The longer tail can also be used to attach the lead lift to. This is a must have when fishing over rocks or a rotten bottom. The lead lift will take the sinker to the surface as soon as you start cranking in.

Breakaway Impact Lead's with wires have a product code BIL. This sinker is a major step forward for the fisherman, and it does cast further. The plastic shield on the lead replaces the impact shield on the rig. The bait is closer to the sinker and is more aerodynamic.
